To evolve the wellness industry, we need leaders in positions of influence who not only see the need for change but balance it with the positives aspects of our profession. One of those leaders is today’s guest, Marissa Kalkman, Executive Director of the Wellness Council of Wisconsin (WCWI). Marissa leads with the mindset that holistic employee wellbeing is good for the organization and the people, and it’s the right thing to do.
As Executive Director, she leads WCWI to support 700 professionals from over 500 member organizations of all industries and sizes across the state, in developing and sustaining results-oriented strategies to impact employee wellbeing.
In this interview, we learn about what WCWI does, Marissa’s wellness experience pre-WCWI and her wellness philosophy. Marissa Kalkman is the Executive Director of the Wellness Council of Wisconsin (WCWI), a statewide non-profit organization that serves to be a community of connected employers that are transforming Wisconsin’s workforce. works with organizations and communities throughout Wisconsin. She has a unique and proficient skillset in employee and organizational wellness gathered from her experience as a consultant, strategy leader, change agent, program manager, health educator, and coach.
Marissa received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Public Health Education, and a Master’s degree in Applied Health Science, Health Promotion from Indiana University. She’s a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist, and completed Wellness Coach training through Wellcoaches School of Coaching. Marissa is active in the community as a recent appointee to the Board of Directors for Mental Health America of Wisconsin, serves as a member of the Advisory Board for the UW Health and Wellness Management graduate program, and is involved in Wisconsin’s State Health Assessment Steering Committee.
